ASIAN HILL TRIBE This site does not seek to provide an explanation of the cultural differences of hill tribe people. It only provides a limited insight into their existence. Whether they are living in Tibet, Nepal, Burma, Laos or Thailand makes no difference. Their culture and identity is under threat either from government, disease, poverty, malnutrition, drugs, war and basic human rights. Today many of the tribes still living in North Thailand and Burma still do not have access to clean water or Health facilities. Up until the millennium girls as young as 12 were traded for money and taken to major cities to work as prostitutes Once they were of no more use to their employers they returned to their villages where they spread the Human immunodeficiency virus As many as thirty five people in one Red Lahu village died as the result of Aids Only 100 people lived in this village Today some charities are undertaking programs to educate the ethnic minorities about sexual health and Practices to stop the spread of Aids and other diseases. Other programmers are being undertaken to help villagers become economically independent with Eco tourism projects and help for young village children who have lost their parents through Aids related death. Village life is hard Rice is grown on steep hillsides where woman harvest the crop and carry up to 70-kilo weight supported By their heads.
